Medical Science Liaison Career Profile
The Medical Science Liaison is similar to the Medical Advisor, except their focus is more on the development of relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL's) in the field. Their role is primarily to educate medical leaders with regard to company products, ongoing clinical trials and to present findings and expert opinion at advisory boards meetings and symposia in their therapeutic area. They act as a liaison between the company and the healthcare community on all matters pertaining to Medical Affairs.
Typically the Medical Science Liaison is a PhD Life Scientist, Pharmacist or Medical Doctor with 2-3 years post-registration experience in the pharmaceutical industry (medical affairs) or in some circumstances post-doctoral research experience will be considered.

Key Responsibilities of the Medical Science Liaison
- Develop professional relationships, build advocacy and gain contributions of KOL / decision makers.
- Collect, analyze and report insights that may impact the company's development plans / trial designs.
- Provide and discuss scientific information and data to healthcare professionals to ensure quality and accuracy of medical and scientific information on new treatment options.
- Liaise and provide up-to-date medical support to relevant external groups to facilitate listing of products in medical guidelines.
- Provide speaker training to health care professionals to support the best use of new therapies developed and commercialized by the company.
- Collaborate with company colleagues to actively support medical and scientific meetings by collecting and interpreting insights / presentations / results, and evaluating impact of competitive information to share internally and externally as post-meeting deliverables.
